Closing the responsibility gap between STR hosts and their guests
Guests don’t know what they don’t know.
To reduce conflict in our neighborhoods and help guests take care of Tahoe, this Short Term Rental Guest messaging kit is simple for hosts and unmissable for guests.
To improve behavior, place messages where they apply.
Signage about water goes near taps, fire near grills, bears on trash, parking in entryways, and noise in gathering areas.
What's In My Kit?
Each kit includes all of the following elements:
Overview One-Pager
You can include this in your rental information packet or binder.
Water
Guests don’t know there’s no need to buy water in Tahoe.
Our award-winning tap water comes from fresh clean melted snow. It’s an ideal source. We realize some of you might be used to buying water on vacation, but that’s one less thing to worry about when you’re in Tahoe. Our tap water is far better than anything you might buy in any bottle. Tahoe tap is 99.994% pure.

Bear Box
Guests don’t know what the bear box is.
You are safe, Tahoe’s black bears are not aggressive toward humans. But it is important for our bears’ safety and yours to keep all trash locked away. Lock anything that has even touched food inside the house or in the bear box. This includes mints, wrappers, and empty cans.
To use the bear box, put each bag of trash inside the bin inside the bear box. Then lock the box and check it before walking away. Never ever ever leave trash outside the bear box, even for “just a minute”. If your trash won’t fit, keep it locked inside the house.

Parking
Guests don’t know vehicle management can have a huge impact on your Tahoe time.
We’ve saved you a spot. Use these reserved spaces to steer clear of parking fails. You really don’t want to deal with obstructing trash collection; getting reported, towed & fined; getting plowed in with snow; or stirring up the wrong kind of interaction with our neighbors.
Before leaving your car, remove anything that has even touched food. Bears will not hurt you but they can pry open cars.

Noise
Guests don’t know there are quiet times in Tahoe.
Tahoe nights are peaceful and noise carries. We keep quiet hours from 9pm – 8am to avoid complaints and fines. Even if you can’t see neighbors, they can hear you. Please keep any amplified sound indoors, keep voices low when outside at night, and be aware of any open windows or doors when playing music.
